Tooth Whitening- should only be provided by dental professionals

Recently a beautician in Southport, Merseyside was prosecuted and fined for illegally providing tooth whitening. Only those registered with the General Dental Council – specifically dentists or  dental hygienists and therapists working on a dentist’s prescription – can carry  out the procedure.

A spokesman for the General Dental Council said: “The GDC investigated after receiving a complaint  from a member of the public about the manner in which her teeth had been  whitened” adding “Anyone considering having tooth whitening should see their GDC-registered  dentist.”
